- Your files travel straight between Google and your browser. They never touch a server of ours, because we don’t have any.
- Processing runs on your device, exactly as it does with a file from your computer.

How to use “MP3 to M4R”
- Add the song you want the ringtone from: an MP3, WAV, M4A or other audio file.
- Move the markers on the waveform to the part that will ring; when it opens, the first 40 s are already marked.
- Check the ringtone with “Play selection”, choose the kbps and click “Convert to M4R”.
- Download the .m4r and copy it to your iPhone with Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows).
What the M4R you get is like
M4R is AAC audio in an MP4 container, like an M4A, but with the extension the iPhone recognizes as a ringtone. The iPhone only accepts ringtones up to 40 seconds long: the selection starts with the first 40 s and, if you choose a longer section, its first 40 s are saved with a short fade at the end. The browser itself encodes the AAC, with no downloads: current Chrome and Edge on Windows, macOS and Android do (Firefox, and Chrome on Linux, have no AAC encoder).
Are my files uploaded?
No. ShiftAny Audio processes your audio directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.
Limits and metadata
ShiftAny sets no duration or size limits: the real ceiling is your device’s memory, because the audio is decompressed to be processed and an hour of stereo takes more than 1 GB. With very long files, we warn you before loading them. The new file contains only the audio: tags (title, artist, cover art) are not copied.
Frequently asked questions
How long can an iPhone ringtone be?
Up to 40 seconds. The tool starts with the first 40 s selected and never saves more, even if you mark a longer section.
How do I get the M4R onto my iPhone?
Connect the iPhone to your computer and drag the .m4r onto its Finder window (Mac) or onto the device’s Tones section in iTunes (Windows). Then pick it in Settings › Sounds & Haptics › Ringtone.
How is this different from “MP3 to AAC”?
Both save AAC audio, but “MP3 to AAC” converts whole songs, several at once, into .aac files for listening; this tool takes a single clip of up to 40 s with the .m4r extension iPhone ringtones use.
