How to use “Trim Audio”

  1. Add the audio file you want to trim.
  2. Drag the two markers on the waveform, or type the start and end times.
  3. Click “Play selection” to check it.
  4. Click “Trim audio” and download the section.

How trimming works

Only the section between the two markers is kept; the rest is discarded. The cut is sample-accurate on the decoded audio and the result is encoded again (MP3 or WAV). If you choose MP3 and the original was already MP3, it is re-encoded once more: for a cut with no loss at all, choose WAV.

Are my files uploaded?

No. ShiftAny Audio processes your audio directly on your device: this tool runs in your browser and never sends your files to any server.

Limits and metadata

ShiftAny sets no duration or size limits: the real ceiling is your device’s memory, because the audio is decompressed to be processed and an hour of stereo takes more than 1 GB. With very long files, we warn you before loading them. The new file contains only the audio: tags (title, artist, cover art) are not copied.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cut several sections at once?

This tool produces one section per file. For several, repeat the process for each one.

How precise is the cut?

You can type the start and end to a tenth of a second, and the markers move with the arrow keys (0.1 s; with Shift, 1 s).

When should I use “Remove Silence” instead?

When what you want to remove is silence: “Remove Silence” detects it on its own in all your files at once. Trimming is for choosing any section by hand, silent or not.
